The Spanish sports commercial calendar

In the Spanish sports sector, sell-in appointments for the following season are held in September and orders are confirmed in October. A brand not in front of buyers by mid-October does not ship until the season after.

What does the full annual cycle look like?

The Spanish sports sector runs a commercial year that begins a year before the consumer sale. These are the phases and what happens in each.

September — sell-in appointments

The following season's range is presented to each account. This is the decisive phase: no range in September means no season.

October — order confirmation

Accounts confirm volume and lines. This is when a brand learns its season figure.

November to January — consolidation

Range adjustment, forecasting and alignment with production.

February — final confirmation

Definitive order close across the full customer base.

March to June — delivery

Delivery scheduling, value-added services and point-of-sale marketing preparation.

July and August — launch

Season start, replica activation and in-season replenishment.

What happens if a brand arrives late?

It loses a full season, not a few weeks. The calendar cannot be recovered because the accounts' buying budgets are already committed to other suppliers. A brand deciding to enter in November does not sell until the following summer, and its first revenue slips by twelve months.

Why does this calendar matter so much for technical sponsorship?

Because a technical sponsorship signed out of cycle cannot produce replica in store that season. The shirt reaches the channel if the deal allows entry into the September sell-in; signed later, the club wears the brand but the channel does not sell it. That is the mistake that turns a sponsorship into a marketing cost instead of a business.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

When does the commercial season start in Spanish sport?

The commercial cycle begins in September with sell-in appointments for the following season, roughly eleven months before the product reaches the consumer.

What is the real deadline to enter a season?

Mid-October. That is when accounts confirm volume and commit budget. After that date a new brand no longer finds room in that season's order.

Is the calendar the same in Portugal?

The cycle is equivalent and managed in parallel, but delivery timings and logistics conditions differ. Many brands negotiate both markets in the same appointment.
