The sports business in Andalusia

Altrian Global Sports is based in Seville and operates across Andalusia. The Andalusian sports market has two features that set it apart from the rest of Spain: a very dense club base spread across eight provinces, and an institutional layer with sports competences at three administrative levels.

This page describes how sport is organised in Andalusia from the point of view of someone who has to do business in it: a brand seeking distribution, a club trying to put its commercial operation in order, or a public authority that invests and has to account for it.

Who holds sports competences in Andalusia?

Three administrative levels at once, and that is the first thing to understand before proposing any agreement or any event in the region.

The regional government

The Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport exercises the region's sports competences. The framework is Law 5/2016 of 19 July on Sport in Andalusia. It regularly issues competitive grant programmes for Andalusian clubs, sports sections and sports public limited companies, and maintains the Andalusian Register of Sports Entities.

The provincial councils

Eight provincial councils, one per province. Article 12 of Law 5/2016 assigns them the provision of technical, economic and material assistance to municipalities in exercising their sports competences. In practice they are a decisive counterpart for facilities and events outside the provincial capitals.

The municipalities

Owners of most publicly used sports facilities and holders of the competences recognised by Andalusian local government legislation. They decide on facility use, event permits and agreements with local clubs.

What is the Andalusian club base like?

Andalusia is Spain's most populous autonomous community and has eight provinces, each with its own capital, its own provincial council and its own local market. That produces a density of professional, semi-professional and grassroots clubs which is not concentrated in a single city, unlike other regions.

What this means for a brand

Teamwear and club kit business is geographically spread. A brand wanting to work that segment does not close Andalusia with two agreements: it needs provincial coverage and logistics that reach eight markets.

What this means for a club

Supporter bases are strongly tied to the territory and to local roots. That is an advantage for membership campaigns and regional sponsorship, and a limitation on growth beyond the province unless the digital channel is worked.

What this means for an institution

The impact of an event is spread across municipalities and provinces, so measuring it requires defining the territorial scope before it is held. Without a defined scope, impact figures cannot be compared between editions.

Does the retail channel work the same way in the south?

National chains and department stores operate on a country-wide basis: the buying decision is not taken in Andalusia. What does change is the weight of the regional independent, which here has a larger share than is usually assumed and is the customary route into club and teamwear business.

What does Altrian Global Sports do from Seville?

Altrian Global Sports is an Andalusian company registered in Seville, incorporated in 2021. It works with brands, clubs, properties and institutions in Andalusia and across Spain, and being here matters for one concrete reason: work with public authorities and provincial clubs happens in person, and distance shows up in the pace of the project.
